The M40 Recoilless Rifle is a US-made, crew-served 105mm recoilless rifle designed primarily as a portable anti-tank weapon. Capable of being broken down and carried by its crew, the M40 gave infantry formations a powerful anti-armour capability without the need for a dedicated towed gun. It could also be employed in an anti-personnel role using flechette rounds, making it a versatile and formidable support weapon.
