The M3 37mm Anti-Tank Gun was the primary US anti-tank weapon at the outbreak of American involvement in the Second World War. Lightweight and easily manhandled by its crew, it saw service across multiple theatres — from the Philippines and North Africa to the Pacific islands — before being superseded by heavier weapons as enemy armour improved. Against early-war Japanese and Italian armour, however, it remained a highly effective and reliable piece.
