A dark, muted brownish-red, Vallejo Model Color Dark Red (70.946) is an essential shadow and basecoat tone for red armour, robes, leather, and dark heraldry on miniatures and scale models. Its deep, earthy character makes it the perfect foundation for building up rich, layered reds or standing alone as a brooding, battle-worn finish.

Recommended Use

Apply over a primed surface as a deep basecoat, then layer up with Carmine Red, Vermillion, or Flat Red for a rich, shaded red finish. Use thinned as a glaze to deepen shadows on existing red armour. Mix with Vallejo Black or Burnt Umber for even darker shadow tones. Thin with distilled water or Vallejo Airbrush Thinner for airbrushing.
